When Gryphons Give Their Time
Volunteers are a significant resource in helping create a supportive and welcoming environment at the International School of Indiana (ISI). There are a number of ways to volunteer at ISI:
The Parent Association (PA) of the International School of Indiana (ISI) is a cooperative organization of parents and families of students at the school. The PA strives to institute and sustain a close relationship between the parents, teachers, and students by evolving opportunities within the home, school, and community. All ISI families are members of the PA and are invited to attend PA meetings and participate in PA activities.
The PA promotes open communication between the administration, teachers, parents, and students. In an effort to improve these communications and to allow equal representation for all three of ISI’s buildings, the PA has representatives for 49th Street, Blackwell, and Taurel.
This cooperative organization provides assistance to teachers within the classroom settings, raises funds for educational materials and experiences, advocates for school and family social interaction, brings together the community at annual events, and provides an unbiased forum for sharing information on issues that impact International School students.
Annual membership dues of $25 per child are billed with tuition. Dues help to pay for the many PA events ISI families enjoy, purchase winter holiday gifts for ISI faculty and staff, provide an annual faculty and staff brunch, and support the school’s fundraising priorities. All ISI families are encouraged to volunteer in some capacity for one or more of the PA events.
Volunteers are crucial to making International School of Indiana's fundraising events successful. Travel Auction is our largest event, and 2019 marked the 25th anniversary year for this signature fundraiser. Volunteers take on a variety of roles, ranging from event chairs, committee chairs, to committee members helping with event planning, marketing, silent and live auction procurement, and cultivation and solicitation of sponsors.
Parent Ambassadors are a volunteer group made up of parents, grandparents, and guardians of ISI students and alumni — all serving as advocates and representatives of the school through a variety of volunteer opportunities. Each year, ISI Parent Ambassadors make a significant impact by:
- Guiding prospective, incoming, and current parents seeking information
- Welcoming and supporting new families at large school events
- Connecting with new families who transfer to ISI during the school year
- Publicizing and encouraging family engagement and outreach events
- Telling the International School story more effectively with passion and pride
Though International School of Indiana doesn’t have a formal Alumni Association, it does have an Alumni network of more than 425 graduates worldwide. Alumni are encouraged to volunteer by participating in the Timmy Games, speak to current students on behalf of college counseling, and serving on various volunteer committees.
