Lower School Events

The Lower School students will celebrate throughout the week in the following ways: 

Tuesday - ISI Pride Day and the introduction of homecoming week. Blue and orange is the theme of the day, and students are encouraged to show their ISI pride by wearing their ISI spirit wear. Grades 4 and 5 students will participate in the Timmy Club Annual Color Run - read important details about that event here! Don’t forget to stay for our Homecoming Volleyball Game at the Blackwell Building at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday - Language Track Pride Day, students will participate in activities during the school day that celebrate the pride of their language track. Attire is normal uniforms. 

Thursday - House Pride. Grades 1 to 5 students are encouraged to wear their House colors, and will earn a House point for doing so (Cardinal - Red, Bison - Blue, Limestone - Grey, and Pioneer - Green). Parents/caretakers who are not sure which House their students are in are asked to email their teacher directly. There will be a variety of events over the school year where students can earn points towards the House Cup, awarded at the end of the year. We will kick the morning off with a short assembly to introduce the House Captains for this school year and have a fun activity in order to earn House Points. Pre-Elementary students can wear spirit gear or their school uniform as usual. 

Friday - International Parade & Festival. The week culminates with the International Parade and Festival. Families are invited to participate. Students can wear attire that represents their home country. 

Upper School events

International Week at the Upper School will also act as a traditional Homecoming Week with our Varsity Girls Volleyball Homecoming Game on Tuesday, September 26, at 7:00pm. High School students have their Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 30, at 8:00pm

Students will join the Timmy Club Color Run (read important event details here!) at the end of the day as we celebrate happiness and individuality in our diverse community. Students must bring a white t-shirt and be prepared to shower each other in color powder, as they run/walk around the campus grounds together. Don’t forget to stay for our Homecoming Volleyball Game at the Blackwell Building at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday - Wear pink in recognition of the theme for our Homecoming Dance.

Thursday - House Pride. Each student wearing their House colors will earn a point for their House. Join in the lunchroom House activity and earn even more points for your House.

Friday - International Parade & Festival: The week culminates with an International Parade and Festival. Carrying flags representing their nation and in attire that represents their home country, students, faculty and staff walk together in a beautiful display of pride for their culture. The parade is followed by a festival for the full school community.

Saturday - “Come on, Barbie, let's go party” Homecoming Dance: The theme of this year's dance is Barbie (wear pink!), and all grades 9 to 12 students are invited to attend. Visit the Homecoming ticket sales web page for more details and to purchase a ticket, which is required to attend. 

Parents or guardians may NOT pick their child up directly from the Parade due to safety protocols. All students (Lower School and Upper School) will complete their parade route and return to the Chen Building.

Only after all students are safely inside the building and accounted for will the pickup process commence, at approximately 3 p.m.

Dismissal for all grades pre-elementary through 12 will occur from the Chen Building. Pickups will be by walk-up to the building for any families already on campus for the event. Carline will operate at the Chen Building utilizing the Lower School queue for parents arriving on campus solely for the purpose of dismissal. 

Parents or guardians making arrangements for another individual to pick-up students/take them to the festival, are asked to provide that in writing prior to the day of the event. Please utilize Managebac to provide special dismissal instructions. 

Please be aware that due to these safety protocols dismissal may take longer than usual, and we ask for your patience as we safely pair students and parents inside the Chen Building.

STUDENT PARADE PARTICIPATION

For the International Parade families self-select the flag that best represents their personal background and sense of belonging. One of the unique aspects of ISI is that our community is diverse and representative of people who are not only from all over the world but who consider themselves citizens of the world. Given this rich diversity, ISI respects that each student be given the freedom to select their flag preference based on a variety of factors including personal heritage, cultural background, citizenship, or personal affiliation/attachment to a flag. The goal of the parade is to not make political, social, or controversial statements but to self-select what flags best represent each student and their unique background. Any selections that go against this spirit may be deemed inappropriate for the parade and you may be asked to make an alternative selection. 

How to make your STUDENT'S flag selection

As part of the Back to School Survey, families were asked to list the flag that they would like their student to display at the International Parade. If you have not submitted your preference, we ask that you do so no later than Wednesday, September 6. Complete your preference by submitting the survey on your student’s Finalsite Enrollment profile.

We recognize that many of our students hold dual nationality and/or have multiple heritages that they would like to present on this day. Given that students walk in groups representing the same flag and anthem, there are logistical hurdles that prevent us from being able to accommodate multiple flag selections and we therefore ask that you choose one flag to walk with this year and can then choose an alternate flag for next year.

Parade Order

Flag etiquette states that the United States of America flag should be flown first since the event is taking place on American soil. Therefore, the parade will begin with the United States of America. All remaining flags will be presented in alphabetical order. Along with the flag, students will carry a placquard and the national anthem of the particular flag will be played in the background.
