August brings the annual return to school, and ISI marks the month with a series of
special traditions and important orientation events for students and their families. 
Before back-to-school events begin, families are reminded to visit the
Ready for School Guide on the Parent Portal to access important information and forms,
like the school supply list, dress code guidelines, and parent engagement opportunities.

New Parent Orientation
August 7 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
New families will review logistics for the school day, including drop-off and pick-up flow and lunch schedules. Students and younger siblings welcome.
 
August 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Families are invited to meet their new teachers, visit classrooms, drop-off school supplies, etc. Students are invited to stay and play on the school grounds.
 
August 13 from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m.
Families are encouraged to participate in this special tradition that sees each student ring the ceremonial bell to start the new academic year. As a part of this traditional, many students choose to bring in flowers to present to their teacher during the ceremony. Parking and planning details are available at the ISI Community Calendar.
 
August 15 from TBD
All ISI parents are members of the Parent Association and are invited to attend PA meetings and become active school volunteers.
 
August 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Families meet with teachers and learn about important classroom information for the academic year ahead.
  • For families 3YO to grade 3: two identical presentation sessions are held inside classrooms; session one at 5:00 p.m. and session two at 5:30 p.m.
  • For families grade 4 and 5: teachers will welcome families to classrooms in open-house style from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Parent Coffee and Tea: Managebac Software Orientation
August 28 from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m.
Crucial for new parents but open to all parents who want to understand the ISI academic communications platform - Managebac - and how it will be used to share student progress reports, important project assignments, and more throughout the academic year.

**Denotes a Gryphon Store Pop-up Shop to be hosted on site during the event to provide families the chance to purchase new Gryphon gear, like t-shirts and sweatshirts, by credit card, check, or cash. 
 
++Denotes a used-uniform sale to be hosted by the Parent Association on site during the event to provide families the chance to purchase gently used uniform shirts, pants, and skirts by cash or check.

An important day of preparation for students only, this orientation event will prepare students for the year ahead and share important information about their move the ISI High School. 
 
Families, including students, will hear from ISI Upper School Leadership and use break-out sessions to learn grade-specific details about the academic year ahead.

  • Faculty introduction by department at 4:00 p.m.
  • Family visits to classrooms at 4:30 p.m.
  • Meet the principal presentation at 6:00 p.m.

Parent Coffee: Welcome to the New Academic Year 
August 21 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Hosted by the Upper School Leadership, the coffee event is another opportunity for parents to learn about policies, opportunities, expectations for students in the new academic year.

The ISI College Counseling team walks parents through the process of planning for the college application and selection process.
