Travel opportunities & Field Trips

The Importance of Seeing the World

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet and help create a better and more peaceful world. ISI offers students multiple opportunities to expand their learning and cultural understanding with a variety of trips throughout their time at the school.

Students have opportunities to immerse themselves in different cultures, allowing them to broaden their perspectives and foster empathy and understanding toward people from diverse backgrounds. These trips encourage independence and self-reliance as students navigate unfamiliar environments while reinforcing classroom learning and allowing students to explore their passions. Moreover, many ISI trips often involve meaningful community service or volunteer work, instilling a sense of social responsibility and global citizenship.

Building Blocks to Traveling the Globe

Travel opportunities grow throughout each student’s time at ISI. The trips are designed to build on each other slowly, allowing students to build confidence and independence and establish safe travel expectations. While the first travel experiences are only for two nights in Indiana, by the time students are in high school, they may be traveling for up to ten days across the globe!

Trip Offerings

Lower School
Grade 3 - Camp Flat Rock 3-day overnight trip - included in tuition
Grade 4 - Bradford Woods 3-day overnight trip - included in tuition
Grade 5 - Washington, D.C., week-long trip

Upper School
ISI offers language, arts, and culture trips to Spanish-speaking countries/regions annually and French and Mandarin-focused trips biannually. Offerings are based on the number of students enrolled in the three language tracks and the costs of visiting the various destinations. Destinations are rotated to offer students a variety of options throughout their time at ISI.

Students in grades 6 to 12 are permitted to travel on any of these trips unless the trip is restricted by grade-level participation. ISI believes travel is about more than language education for our students. Each of our trips includes a strong focus on cultural, environmental, and community service activities so that students have an experiential education experience that fits with our school mission and being an IB World School.
