Timmy Week Spring 2022 Recap

Last week, the Upper School celebrated another successful Timmy Week! With many COVID-19 policies being lifted, spring Timmy Week was the first major event that brought the ISI Upper School community together, fundraising for Timmy Global Health. Throughout the week, students participated in different spirit days, donating $1 each day to dress in a variety of themes, including Groutfits, Anything But a Backpack, and Twin Tuesday.

At the Middle School, Timmy Jr. added Minute to Win It games during lunch break for the first time, asking students and teachers to donate $1 to participate. Halfway through the week, Timmy Jr. hosted the Teacher vs Student volleyball game. Many students got to play volleyball for the first time, and even took home a victory against the staff team!

“It felt so good to be back to ‘normal' for this Timmy Week,” Timmy Jr. advisor Mattie Fuchs said. “I have only been at ISI during the pandemic, so this is one of my first events to see ISI together as a community that everyone talks about. I loved getting to see the high school students mingle with the middle school students and alumni. It was so great to see what the community can be and created a base expectation for future events.”

The High School celebrated one of the highest participation Timmy Weeks since its founding. With the successful planning of the themes, many students were excited to dress up and donate - especially on Groutfit day and Anything But a Backpack day. The week was capped off with the Timmy Club Teacher vs Student basketball game, which was attended by over 200 ISI students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff! Not only did the ISI community enjoy the game, they also were able to participate in raffles, enjoy a performance from the Drill Team, and reconnect with visiting alumni.

“The game was the most attended and spirited in over 15 years of having the event,” Timmy Club advisor Yelena Sinitsky said. “And it was attended by all - parents, students of all grades, and alumni.”

Pictures of the High School Timmy game can be viewed and purchased here - all proceeds will be donated to ISI Timmy Club.

Check back next week for a final fundraising total reveal!

With a small but mighty team, both the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams were able to find ways to improve, break records, and have a great time throughout the season. The Cross Country athletes spent their season pushing themselves to gain endurance and speed. Grade 10 runners Ashwin Long and Dennis Lemoine worked hard throughout the season, reached multiple PRs, and made it to regionals and sectionals, respectively.

The Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of study designed for students in their final two years of high school. It is a broad-based, two-year course that aims to prepare students for university by encouraging students to be knowledgeable and inquiring but also caring and compassionate. There is a strong emphasis on encouraging students to develop intercultural understanding, open-mindedness, and the attitudes necessary to respect and evaluate a range of points of view.

The Extended Essay is an opportunity for students to gain experience with the independent research and writing skills expected at university. Students investigate a topic they personally care about from class and create a 4,000-word piece of independent research over the course of a year.
