The First Phase of ONE Future Begins, Building a New Space for Connection and Community

After months of planning, the first project enabled by the ONE Future Campaign is set to begin in May!

Inspired by the plazas that serve as community centers in many vibrant international cities, the International Plaza will become the heart of ISI’s campus, seamlessly linking academic buildings and athletic facilities while providing a dynamic, multipurpose space that unites students, families, and visitors. The plaza, designed to serve as a true hub of activity, will connect all outdoor spaces on campus and feature essential amenities, including two structures. Structure one includes restrooms, concessions, and storage for Gryphon Athletics. The second structure is a shaded, open-air pavilion with built-in benches and ample electrical power, enabling it to be used for community, arts, and athletic events, as well as outdoor classes.

A defining feature of the plaza will be a 66-foot, 24,000-pound replica of the Eiffel Tower, which was initially constructed to greet visitors for the nine-day U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, the sole qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The Indiana Sports Corporation selected ISI as the permanent home for Indy’s replica Eiffel Tower, and they have generously donated the art piece to ISI. Funding from the Allen Whitehill Clowes Foundation is enabling the piece to be reassembled and installed on campus. The replica will become a centerpiece of the plaza and serve as a lasting tribute to the importance of internationalism in Indiana.

The plaza sits east of the main track and field and will serve as an entrance to the space. Visitors will have access from both the Chen and Blackwell parking lots to the Plaza, and will walk through the Plaza and under the Tower to reach the new bleachers, elevating the fan experience for all events hosted at the track and field. The school is currently considering options for scoreboards, lighting, and sound systems as part of the track and field enhancements.

While the International Plaza Construction gets underway, planning continues for Phase 2 projects: Daneri Family Gymnasium Addition, Blackwell Addition, Tennis Courts, interior remodeling of Blackwell and Taurel, and refreshed and new roadways, parking lots, pathways, and water management. As planning continues, so does the final fundraising push for ONE Future. Just 10% of the funding remains to reach the $14 million fundraising goal, and campaign leaders are encouraging all ISI families and supporters to help reach or exceed the goal.

The outcome of our fundraising will directly determine the full scope of our projects. Though all projects will be completed, fundraising will shape every detail of the Phase 2 projects, from aesthetics to function. “When this campaign is complete, we will have great additions to campus, but the amount of square footage, the types of finishes, how many interior spaces can be refreshed, the equipment and furnishing we select, and what happens as part of these projects versus what waits for future projects all depend on the success of fundraising,” Kristen Kaiser, Vice President of Development and External Affairs, said.

For the remainder of the school year, families and friends of ISI are invited to participate in the campaign through direct donations, the Timmy Sponsored ONE Future Fundraising Event for students, or by gathering a group of friends to encourage others to participate.

Make your donation by June 5 to participate in the ONE Future Top of the Tower Signing
