Teacher Feature: Mendi Wiseman
Mendi has been at ISI for 14 years as the Lower School Music Teacher.
Mendi’s background:
I have spent half of my teaching career (14 years, 28 years teaching total) here at ISI. I am as local as they get. I was born and raised in Kokomo, Indiana. Then, I attended Butler University, earning my bachelor's and master's degrees in Music Education. I love playing the piano and my saxophone any chance that I get!
I have had the special honor of being an ISI teacher and an ISI parent, seeing both sides of the spectrum. This perspective has allowed me to see how lucky I am to teach and interact with people from all parts of the world and to share with them my special part of the world. My daughter has had the chance to travel and see different countries and cultures throughout her Upper School career, which has allowed her to feel comfortable traveling and pursuing future career opportunities.
In my spare time, I love spoiling my cats, exercising, and playing music!
Mendi’s favorite memories from her time at ISI:
My favorite memory is presenting my daughter, Anzie, her ISI diploma this past May. I also have wonderful memories of running the music for all of the cultural celebrations. Because I am on stage, I get to have a front-row seat for all of the performances and see the magic and love that the teachers put into each show!
Mendi’s favorite thing about ISI:
I love International Week - seeing all of the different flags and playing all of the National Anthems for the country parade! As a parent, I love the IB programme. It truly prepares students for college, and it is what colleges are looking for in terms of student performance!
