Season Recap: Varsity Track & Field

The Gryphons Track & Field program took important steps forward during the 2026 season. From athletes setting personal records to strong performances at sectionals and regionals, the team showed steady improvement throughout the year. While injuries presented challenges along the way, the Gryphons remained committed to their goals and continued to compete with determination, making this season another positive chapter in the program's growth.

Throughout the season, athletes demonstrated a strong commitment to their training. They consistently worked to improve during practices and competitions, despite injuries impacting several athletes throughout the season, forcing many to overcome setbacks while continuing to compete. Their dedication paid off, as the team recorded numerous personal bests and saw significant development from athletes across the roster.

The Gryphons saved some of their strongest performances for the postseason, with sophomore Sophia White delivering an impressive performance in the 100-meter dash, qualifying for the finals and narrowly missing a regional qualification. Senior Ashwin Long capped off an outstanding high school career by tying his own school record in the 800-meter run at sectionals, breaking his record once again at regionals, and finishing 11th overall in the state.

Reflecting on the season, Head Coach Phillip Thompson praised the team's perseverance and growth. "This season, one of our main goals was to continue growing the program while building a team that could compete at a high level. Throughout the year, our athletes showed great commitment and continued to improve in both practices and meets," Thompson said.

At the close of the 2026 season, the Gryphons have plenty to be proud of. From overcoming adversity to setting new personal and school records, the team continued to build a strong foundation for the future while celebrating the accomplishments of its athletes.
