Season Recap: Varsity Cross Country
The ISI Varsity Cross Country team wrapped up an impressive season marked by determination, resilience, and personal achievements. Despite challenges, the team delivered standout performances and celebrated remarkable personal milestones.
Junior Ashwin Long delivered a season to remember, setting a remarkable personal record by shaving off a full minute from his previous time and earning a spot at regionals. Reflecting on his season, Ashwin shared, “My biggest goal was to run fast and get into the 16s or 17s for my 5k time and to also make a bigger impact on this year’s achievements. My biggest accomplishment was making regionals again and placing better than last year. We’re far from done—more progress is coming.”
Dennis Lemoine balanced his dedication to cross-country with his role in the school play. Despite these hurdles, he set a new personal record of 22:58 during the season, demonstrating incredible perseverance. Freshman Josh Christie also showcased his grit, pushing through shin splints to deliver an impressive PR of 20:30, hinting at a bright future in the sport.
Coach Jared Johnson praised the team’s efforts, saying, “The team displayed grit and dedication throughout the season, with each athlete overcoming obstacles to achieve personal growth and success.”
