Season Recap: Middle School Track & Field

The Middle School Track & Field team wrapped up an incredible season as one of the largest athletics teams in ISI history. With a strong mix of returning athletes and new team members, the season was marked by growth in both skill and teamwork. Throughout the spring, athletes pushed themselves and each other, achieving new personal bests and making school history.

A major highlight of the season was the six ISI athletes who qualified for the State Track & Field Championships, a remarkable accomplishment for the program. At State, our athletes rose to the challenge:

  • Beckett Garry delivered his fastest times of the season in both the 100m (11.53) and 200m (23.77), placing 9th and 10th in the state.
  • Mateo Anderson ran a personal best in the 400m (52.50) and followed it with an impressive 800m (2:07.80), placing 2nd and 11th, respectively.
  • The Boys 4x400m relay team, comprised of Anderson, Garry, Mauricio Laguna, and Alex Lee, ran their best time of the season, 3:52.66, placing 18th in the state.

Also qualifying for State were:

  • Nadia Shannon in the Discus (81-5)
  • Sophia White in the 100m (13.69)

At the IISL Championships, our Girls team, who went undefeated during the regular season, placed third overall after a disqualification in the 4x100m relay. The Boys team earned a strong fourth-place finish overall.

Student-athletes reflected proudly on their accomplishments and set goals for the future:

“My biggest accomplishment from this season was placing 9th in the state for the 100M dash,” said Grade 7 student Beckett Garry. “I also went undefeated in all of my races during regular season. This season was amazing when it came to State because we had six people qualify, which was remarkable for our school. Looking forward to next season!”

“My team and I are always trying to improve anything we do,” shared Grade 7 student Theddy Chesterfield. “We all push ourselves to our limits and never give up whether it’s sport or something inside the classroom.”

Looking ahead, athletes are already excited for what's to come:

“My biggest goals this season are to get hurdles down and jump 4’6. I’m looking forward to high jump,” said Grade 8 student Miriam Kreutz.

“Some of my biggest goals this season are to PR on hurdles. I am really excited for Track and I really like my team,” added Grade 7 student Anastacia Davis.

With dedication, sportsmanship, and talent on full display, the Middle School Track & Field team capped off a season to remember, laying the foundation for even greater success in the years ahead.
