Season Recap: Middle School Cross Country

With a team comprised of new runners, the Co-Ed Middle School Cross Country team spent their season building skills, endurance, and the basics of competing. Their hard work paid off, with each runner improving on their individual times by the conclusion of the season.

“My goals for the team this year were for them to build up their endurance and to have them beat themselves,” Coach Wezi Mulamba said. “I often told the team that they are racing against themselves from the day before.”

Cross Country is unique in that the student athletes were able to directly compare their results to past running times to track improvement during practice and meets.

“My biggest goals coming into the season were to compete in lots of meets and to get fast each time,” Grade 6 runner Haroon Iqtidar said. “My biggest accomplishment this season was finishing 9th in a 20 person race.”

With a small but mighty team, both the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams were able to find ways to improve, break records, and have a great time throughout the season. The Cross Country athletes spent their season pushing themselves to gain endurance and speed. Grade 10 runners Ashwin Long and Dennis Lemoine worked hard throughout the season, reached multiple PRs, and made it to regionals and sectionals, respectively.
