Season Recap: Grades 4 to 6 Basketball

Having the entire ISI student body on one campus has continued to allow more opportunities for students of all ages to be involved in the ISI community in new and exciting ways. This year, for the first time, Grade 4 students were given the opportunity to try out for the Grades 5 & 6 basketball team! Many students were excited about this opportunity to join the team, gain new skills, and grow their love for basketball.

“The Grades 4 to 6 team worked on improving their general ball-handling skills and conditioning.  The important thing to remember is that our team was composed of younger student-athletes than most of the teams they played against,” Athletics Director Joel O’Neil said. “Although there was initially a large disparity between ISI and the competition, as the season continued, this difference became smaller, and by the end of the season, the boys were holding their own and winning games regularly.”

Being such a young team, many of the players had goals for themselves to improve throughout the season and are excited to come back next year to continue building their skills. The student-athletes focused on personal victories and improvements rather than winning every game. By the end of the season, they saw that hard work pay off with closer games and more team wins!

“My biggest goals coming into the season were to learn how to make a layup and to make good shots using the techniques we learned in practice,” Grade 6 student Teddy Chesterfield said. “My favorite memory was finishing the season with a win.”

Thanks to the incredible generosity of participants and sponsors, this year’s event surpassed last year’s total, raising over $31,000! These funds directly support facility and equipment upgrades, helping to elevate our athletics program to new heights. As the cost of running the ISI Athletics Program is not covered entirely by athletics fees, philanthropic support is a critical component of continual program growth.
