Season Recap: Grade 7 Volleyball
This season, the Grade 7 Volleyball Team set out to grow together as a team and support one another’s individual and collective successes. The team, made up of nine players with a wide range of experience—from beginners to seasoned players—faced the unique challenge of learning how to support one another while improving as individuals.
The season began with players who were still learning how to work together and adapt to the structure and teamwork skills required to be successful on the court. However, through hard work and a commitment to growth, the team came together in remarkable ways. They learned to rely on one another’s skills, celebrate each other’s successes, and focus on their shared goals.
"From the start, it was clear the team faced challenges with adapting to the structure and teamwork needed to have a successful season,” Head Coach Amy Thornburg said. “However, by the end of the season, they had undergone a remarkable transformation, embracing a positive, collaborative mindset. Some who had never played volleyball before—or been part of a group sport—are now excited to continue playing, even joining club volleyball. It makes me very proud that they were all excited to continue and found some enjoyment in a sport I cherish.”
The team achieved an impressive record of 10-1, a testament to their perseverance and growing camaraderie. The student-athletes came into the season with personal goals for improvement and stuck with them throughout the season, making strides with each practice and match. "One of my biggest goals coming into the season was to learn how to over-hand serve, " Grade 7 student Amirah Weaver said. "By the end of the season, I did learn how to [over-hand serve]! My coach and teammates were so helpful."
The season wasn’t just about wins and losses—it was about cultivating a love for the game and creating meaningful connections. Many players who were new to volleyball discovered a passion for the sport and are now continuing to hone their skills through club volleyball.
"All of the people new to the sport and the returning players were very kind," Grade 7 player Kate Bradbury said. "The returning players helped the new people get better."
What began as a group of individuals grew into a team full of potential and promise, showcasing the incredible impact of determination and teamwork. Congratulations on an outstanding season!
