Season Recap: Grade 7 & 8 Basketball

The Grade 7 & 8 Basketball Team closed out their season with a 4-8 record, marking a year of impressive growth and resilience. Despite having only two players with prior experience and facing roster challenges, the team came together, with several Grade 6 students stepping up to contribute. Their hard work paid off, as they secured exciting wins this season while improving as a team.

One of the defining moments of the season was a thrilling overtime victory against Bethesda Christian School. “Our biggest accomplishment this season was our overtime win,” Grade 8 student Asher Stevens said. “My goal moving forward is to keep improving and be more aggressive on the court.”

Looking ahead to high school basketball, Grade 8 student Caleb Aikins is focused on refining his three-point shot and preparing for the next level of competition. “Some goals I have moving forward are improving my three-point shooting and getting ready for next season moving to high school,” Grade 8 student Caleb Aikins said. 

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Assistant Coach Zach Haley emphasized the impact these players had on the program. “Above all the highs and lows of a typical season, the most important thing about these student-athletes is the leadership they display and the legacy they leave behind,” he said. “They should be proud of their accomplishments on and off the court as they showed what it means to be a Gryphon.”

With a season defined by perseverance and growth, the future looks bright for these young athletes as they continue to develop their skills and passion for the game.
