Season Recap: Grade 5/6 Volleyball
The Grade 5/6 Volleyball Team faced a season of growth, determination, and achievement. As Grade 5 is the first year students begin participating in school athletics, many of the players are entirely new to the sport. Starting with little experience, the players worked tirelessly to develop their skills. “Our biggest challenge this year was the lack of experience,” shared Coach Linda Weiss. “Most of the girls couldn’t serve over the net at first. We started with the basics and had parent volunteers step in to help during practices.”
Despite a challenging start, the team’s progress was remarkable. “Our record doesn’t show how great these girls played. They had so many close games, and by the end of the season, every player could serve over the net. Their confidence grew leaps and bounds,” said Coach Weiss. “You could see the improvement with each game. I’m so excited to see what they’ll achieve next year.”
For the players, the season was a chance to set goals and make unforgettable memories. “My biggest goals were to work hard, learn an overhand serve, and improve my setting,” said Grade 5 player Parilee Ogden. “My favorite moment was winning our first game. Everyone’s parents ran onto the court, and we were all screaming and celebrating!”
The team’s hard work and determination paid off, setting the foundation for a bright future on the court! The team looks forward to continuing to introduce new players to the sport each year and to watch players continue to develop their skills and love for volleyball throughout their Middle School and High School years at ISI.
