Season Recap: Grade 5/6 B Team Volleyball

The Grade 5/6 B Team had a season full of learning, growth, and plenty of excitement. For many of the players, it was their first experience playing on a volleyball team, making the season an opportunity to learn the fundamentals, build confidence, and discover the excitement of competing as a team.

“Since we had so many girls who had never played on a volleyball team, we had to start with the basics,” Weiss said. “Because of the different skill levels, coaches had to make sure everyone understood what they needed to do. Our biggest goal was making sure they had fun and maybe get some wins while we were at it.”

Those wins became some of the season’s most memorable moments, which brought plenty of excitement. “They were so happy, jumping up and down, screaming and crying,” Weiss said.

For Grade 5 student Lyla Rougee, a big goal coming into the season was simply “to have a good experience playing and winning a game.” Isabel Gutierrez wanted to “learn how to play volleyball and be a part of a great team.”

Grade 6 student Emilia Powers is already looking ahead to next season. “I really want to get my overhand serves over,” she said. “My favorite memories from the season were winning games, getting better at communicating, and going for the ball.”

With two teams and players at different skill levels, Weiss said one of the team’s biggest accomplishments was helping everyone understand that they were still one big team. The season gave the players a strong start and plenty of reasons to be excited for what comes next.
