Season Recap: Grade 5 & 6 Volleyball

The Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball season was marked by steady growth and enthusiasm from start to finish. With a large number of enthusiastic players, the team was split into two groups, giving every athlete a chance to develop their skills and experience the excitement of competition. The season focused on learning the fundamentals, building teamwork, and gaining confidence on the court.

“Our biggest goal this season was having the girls learn skills and putting them to use in a game,” Assistant Coach Linda Weiss said. “We reminded them that it wasn’t about winning or losing, it was about having fun and learning something new. The biggest challenge was helping new players grasp the basics and apply them during matches. But the most rewarding part was seeing their confidence grow. Every player was able to serve and get the ball over the net at least once this season.”

For many players, this was their first time playing volleyball, and the season brought plenty of personal victories. Grade 5 player Emma Aikins reflected, “My biggest challenge this season was learning the rules and how to play volleyball. My biggest accomplishment was getting better at the sport.”

Grade 6 player Gabriela Cunha shared, “My biggest goals coming into the season were to learn to overhand serve and to get better at calling ‘mine’ for the ball more. My biggest accomplishment was learning to overhand serve during matches.”

As the season wrapped up, it was clear that the team achieved far more than improved serves and volleys; they built confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game that will serve them well in future seasons.
