Season Recap: Girls Varsity Volleyball

Balancing a mixture of new and returning players, the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team started the season with goals to further develop returning players, teach the fundamentals to new players, and improve the team’s record from last year.

“We wanted to teach the fundamentals of the game in practice so that it would transfer into real time game situations,” Assistant Coach Kevin Long said. “We also wanted to improve our overall team record from last to this year, which we achieved.”

Returning players had their personal improvement in mind, but also balanced their own growth with helping new players learn the game.

“I believe my biggest accomplishment this season was being able to serve consistently and being able to go on a few serving runs,” Grade 10 player Asia Genawi said. “The biggest challenge was adapting to the new players that joined who we were not used to playing with.”

Looking forward to next year, the team looks forward to having many returning players, with the addition of many grade 8 players moving up to the High School team.

“We are already looking forward to getting started with next year's season,” Long said. “We have several veteran players returning as well as many new players that we feel are going to be a great asset to help our team be even better next year.”

With a small but mighty team, both the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams were able to find ways to improve, break records, and have a great time throughout the season. The Cross Country athletes spent their season pushing themselves to gain endurance and speed. Grade 10 runners Ashwin Long and Dennis Lemoine worked hard throughout the season, reached multiple PRs, and made it to regionals and sectionals, respectively.
