Season Recap: Girls Varsity Golf

With a team made up of returning players, the Girls Varsity Golf Team began the season ready to continue growing from last season and ready to have fun while doing so. The athletes constantly encouraged each other while working on new skills, improving form, and during matches.

“I think the team really came together as a unit this season,” Coach Kelly Steele Hughes said. “Golf can feel more like an individual sport than a team sport sometimes, but this team had a good atmosphere of support and camaraderie.”

Not only did the team enjoy playing together and grow close, but they also improved upon their scores from last year, beating past sectional scores. They did all of this in one of the shortest athletics seasons, with only five weeks to practice and play as a team.

“I wanted to have another fun season with the team, as well as continue to grow my golfing skills and abilities,” Grade 12 player Anzie Wiseman said. “My biggest accomplishment this season was seeing improved scores and having fun on the course.”

With a small but mighty team, both the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams were able to find ways to improve, break records, and have a great time throughout the season. The Cross Country athletes spent their season pushing themselves to gain endurance and speed. Grade 10 runners Ashwin Long and Dennis Lemoine worked hard throughout the season, reached multiple PRs, and made it to regionals and sectionals, respectively.
