Season Recap: Boys Varsity Tennis

The Boys Varsity Tennis team wrapped up an impressive season this fall, finishing with an 11–1 overall record and earning third place in conference. Led by a strong group of seniors, the team combined talent, discipline, and leadership to deliver one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent years.

Head Coach Haley Bougher shared that the team entered the season knowing their potential. “We knew we had an exceptionally talented group this year,” she said. “Our focus was on staying disciplined, continuing to develop our skills, and positioning ourselves to place well at conference and advance out of sectionals.”

That preparation paid off. The team’s only loss came in a close 2–3 match against University, marking a major improvement over previous seasons and demonstrating the team’s continued growth and commitment.

Individually, ISI players posted standout performances:

  • Elias Grimm went 10–1 at #1 singles and advanced to the finals of the individual regional—the furthest an ISI player has advanced during Coach Bougher’s decade leading the team.
  • Michael Kreutz finished 13–2 at #2 singles.
  • Leo-Paul Perrin closed his season 14–1 at #3 singles.

In addition to their athletic success, the team was recognized for excellence in the classroom, earning Team Academic All-State honors, with seniors Elias Grimm, Michael Kreutz, and Leo-Paul Perrin also receiving Individual Academic All-State recognition.

Coach Bougher credited the team’s seniors, Grimm, Kreutz, Perrin, Jules Dassonville, Craig Johnson, and Carson McCaslin, for setting the tone throughout the season. “Their leadership and dedication were outstanding,” she said. “They made sure our team brought energy and enjoyment to every practice and match.” She also expressed appreciation for the parents’ support, which she said helped make this season “one of our smoothest and most successful years.”

The seniors reflected fondly on their final season:

“My biggest accomplishment this season was getting to the second round of Regionals,” said Elias Grimm. “We had a fun season and a great team, and I hope people join next year too.”

“My biggest goals coming into the season were to improve my consistency and shot-making ability,” shared Michael Kreutz. “I wanted to play tennis at a high level while having fun with friends. We had an amazing season, and I highly recommend people join next year, even if they are a beginner.”

“My favorite memory was struggling before winning—like when we played Indian Creek and I had the wrong shoes, so I was losing until I figured out how to adapt,” said Leo-Paul Perrin. “It was a very close match, and I had a nice conversation with my opponent after.”

With a remarkable record, a deep postseason run, and a strong team culture, this year’s Boys Varsity Tennis team set a new standard for ISI Tennis, both on and off the court.
