Season Recap: Boys Varsity Tennis

After graduating five seniors last year, the Boys Varsity Tennis Team was prepared for a challenging season with many new players working on improving their skills.

“Our biggest challenge coming into the season was bouncing back after graduating five seniors last season,” Head Coach Haley Bougher said. “Most of our varsity spots were filled by freshmen this season which can be daunting going up against schools that often have JV and Varsity. We play the best of each team and have a very competitive schedule. Our young team held its own this season.”

With tennis being both a team and individual sport, players worked hard to improve their skills throughout the season - setting out to achieve a winning season with a very competitive schedule.

The Gryphons were led by two returning seniors, Konrad Gossweiler and Will Longfellow.

“My biggest goal coming into the season was to win matches with [doubles partner] Konrad,” Longfellow said. “My biggest accomplishment this season was scoring points and performing well against Park Tudor.”

With their hard work this season, the Gryphons were able to rise to the challenge and finish the season with a winning record, with room to grow as many varsity players return next year.

“The boy's fought hard during the PAAC conference and our Sectional against Park Tudor,” Bougher said. “Both of these matches offered challenging competition, but the boys had great attitudes, played well, and had fun.”

With a small but mighty team, both the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams were able to find ways to improve, break records, and have a great time throughout the season. The Cross Country athletes spent their season pushing themselves to gain endurance and speed. Grade 10 runners Ashwin Long and Dennis Lemoine worked hard throughout the season, reached multiple PRs, and made it to regionals and sectionals, respectively.
