New York City Arts Trip 2026 Recap

ISI Grade 10 and 11 students recently traveled to New York City for an immersive arts experience, diving into the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cultural capitals. From Broadway stages to world-renowned museums, students spent the week exploring, creating, and connecting with the arts in meaningful ways.

The trip began bright and early, with students arriving in New York ready to jump straight into the energy of the city. Their first morning included a live taping of the Today Show at Rockefeller Center, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into broadcast media. From there, students explored Central Park and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where they engaged with centuries of artistic expression from around the world.

Throughout the week, students experienced the rich musical history of the city with a Harlem Jazz Tour, followed by a traditional soul food lunch that highlighted the cultural roots of the neighborhood. They also visited the New York Arts League, where students participated in tours and had time to explore exhibits at their own pace.

A major highlight of the trip was attending multiple Broadway performances, including Death Becomes Her, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and & Juliet. These experiences gave students the opportunity to witness professional theater at the highest level, deepening their appreciation for performance, storytelling, and stagecraft. A guided tour of Radio City Music Hall added even more insight into the history and production of live entertainment.

Beyond the stage, students explored contemporary and cultural landmarks across the city. Visits included the Museum of Broadway, the Banksy Museum, and the 9/11 Memorial, as well as time spent in neighborhoods like SoHo, Chelsea, and along the High Line. In Brooklyn, students participated in a hands-on percussion workshop and explored the vibrant street art scene in Bushwick, connecting visual and performing arts in new ways.

The trip also offered moments of reflection and connection, from visiting the Stonewall National Monument to sharing meals together across the city, from Chelsea Market to local restaurants like Havana Central and Hurley’s Saloon. These shared experiences helped strengthen the community while encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones.

The ISI Grade 10 and 11 Arts Trip was more than a visit to New York City; it was a dynamic learning experience that brought the arts to life. Through live performances, museum visits, cultural exploration, and hands-on workshops, students gained a deeper understanding of artistic expression and its impact on society. Most importantly, they returned with lasting memories, new perspectives, and a renewed inspiration for their own creative journeys.
