The International School of Indiana (ISI) has partnered with the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University to launch a new language immersion-focused summer camp June 14-25 in Indianapolis. The new ISI Language Summer Camp will offer main programming in two languages — Mandarin and Arabic — to students Pre-K through grade 12.

The Language Summer Camp will be led in partnership with professors from IU’s Hamilton Lugar School, which offers more than 80 world languages — the most of any university in the country — and is home to Language Flagship Programs in Arabic and Mandarin. No prior dual-language experience is required to attend, and the program welcomes beginner level students. In addition, ISI teachers will lead a supplemental Portuguese camp program from June 21 to July 2.

The language camp will be at the ISI Upper School campus at 4330 N. Michigan Road, where the institution’s resources include an enclosed gym, playgrounds, recreational fields and nature trail access for ample social distancing requirements. For the past year, ISI has continued to operate in person successfully with stringent health and safety best practices, measures that will continue during the camp.

“We look forward to partnering with the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies in providing a unique summer camp option to the central Indiana community,” ISI Head of School Elizabeth Head (at left) said. “This is the perfect opportunity for families to see first-hand our approach to education and the unrivaled expertise our two institutions bring to the table.”

Ambassador Lee Feinstein, founding dean at the Hamilton Lugar School, agreed.

“We are thrilled to partner with our friends at ISI. Learning world languages and cultures leads to global understanding and humility,” Feinstein said. “Helping young Hoosiers develop these skills in K-12 classes is the best way to nurture future global leaders.”
