Inaugural Golf Outing Recap

To support its growing Gryphon Athletics program, The International School of Indiana held the inaugural ISI Golf Outing in support of the Gryphon Athletics Program on September 14. The parent-organized event was the vision of Jack Hope and Kelly Steele Hughes, and together with support from the school and dedicated volunteers, they brought their vision to life in an impactful way.

Held at the Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel, the event included nearly 100 players. Current and Alumni ISI families, employees, and friends had a perfect day for friendly competition, camaraderie, and raising funds for a worthy cause. Golfers enjoyed a shotgun start golf scramble, Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin competitions, raffles, a student-made video, dinner, and access to new Gryphon Athletics gear.

“I am so grateful to the event organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters,” said Athletic Director Joel O’Neil. “Only 33% of the cost to run our athletics program is covered by the fees that our student-athletes pay. Philanthropic support for the Gryphon Athletics Program supplements our budget in a truly important way to make sure that our program remains accessible and continues to grow.”

This first-year event raised $25,000 in support of the ISI Athletics Program! Proceeds from the event support the overall athletics program and three fund-a-need projects help to complete or support important projects including fully funding game balls for this year, purchasing a new branded cover for the long jump pit that will enhance the entire track and field, and completion of the ISI wrestling mat a project that began last year.

“On behalf of the school, I would like to give special thanks to the event co-chairs, Jack and Kelly, for their vision, passion, and generosity,” said Head of School Elizabeth Head. “I also want to thank their committee members Janet McCaslin, Heather Woods, and Carrie Salazar, as well as the coaches, players, and parents who volunteered for the event, and finally, our advancement team. It takes a team effort to establish a new event and tradition, and we are all excited to see how we can continue to grow”

The ISI Athletics Program serves students grades 5 through 12, and includes more than twenty teams. Recent additions to the program include boys volleyball, wrestling, and a dance team. If you missed the Golf Outing, you have not missed the opportunity to support the Gryphon Athletics program. With a small but mighty team, both the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams were able to find ways to improve, break records, and have a great time throughout the season. The Cross Country athletes spent their season pushing themselves to gain endurance and speed. Grade 10 runners Ashwin Long and Dennis Lemoine worked hard throughout the season, reached multiple PRs, and made it to regionals and sectionals, respectively.

The Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of study designed for students in their final two years of high school. It is a broad-based, two-year course that aims to prepare students for university by encouraging students to be knowledgeable and inquiring but also caring and compassionate. There is a strong emphasis on encouraging students to develop intercultural understanding, open-mindedness, and the attitudes necessary to respect and evaluate a range of points of view.

The Extended Essay is an opportunity for students to gain experience with the independent research and writing skills expected at university. Students investigate a topic they personally care about from class and create a 4,000-word piece of independent research over the course of a year.
