Athletics Recap - October 12th to 19th

As the Fall Athletics Season comes to a close, teams have been competing in end-of-season tournaments and sectional play. Great job finishing the season strong, Gryphons!

Student Athlete of the Week | Isabela Gonzalez Knarr | Girls Varsity Volleyball
Isabela shows an unwavering dedication to the volleyball team. While she may not be the top scorer, she consistently shows up with heart and hustle. She respects her coaches and teammates, cheers for everyone, and brings a contagious positive attitude to every game. Her commitment to fostering a healthy competitive spirit and uplifting others makes her an invaluable part of the team. She leads by example, proving that true athleticism is not just about skill, but about character, teamwork, and spirit. She embodies what it means to be a team player.

10/16 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Indiana Math and Science Academy | 25-9, 25-10, 25-7
Sectional Round 1

The team had a late-night start for the first round of sectionals, but drummed up the energy to deliver high-quality play against Indiana Math & Science Academy. The team has been working on more consistent serving, quick transitions on free balls, and being aggressive at the net on overpasses - and delivered on all three in a convincing sectional win. Teresa and Yaretzi went on long serving runs, and Gabby and Isabela were aggressive at the net. MaKayla subbed in at the end of the third set and delivered the match-winning serve.

10/18 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Tindley Academy | 25-7, 25-10, 25-13
Sectional Round 2

The team brought great energy for the second round of sectionals versus Tindley. Multiple players had serving runs and the team was ready for anything the opponent threw our way.

10/18 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Indiana School for the Deaf | 25-14, 25-23, 25-22
Sectional Championship

The team faced a much-improved Indiana School for the Deaf team in the sectional championship on Saturday. The team has been focused on building serving runs, and multiple players delivered. When the sets were close and the girls started to show some nerves, they did an excellent job of centering themselves and playing their game. They did a nice job of making adjustments on defense after ISD took advantage of some of our weaknesses. They closed out a close second set, which was a huge mental win and created momentum for the third set. The match was a testament to the mental resiliency the team has worked on all season. Congratulations to our Gryphons, sectional champions!

10/18 | Varsity Cross Country Sectional Meet
It was a great day for the Gryphons at sectionals, highlighted by an outstanding performance from senior Ashwin Long, who finished 26th overall and secured his place at next week’s regional meet in Brownsburg. The rest of the Gryphons squad also had a strong showing, with every runner finishing with a pace under 7:30 per mile; an impressive testament to their steady improvement and team commitment this season. The meet was a reflection of the athletes’ perseverance, teamwork, and school pride. Congratulations to Ashwin and the entire team for representing ISI so well!

10/18 | Elias Grimm | Boys Varsity Tennis Regionals Round 1 | 6-0, 6-0
10/18 | Elias Grimm | Boys Varsity Tennis Regionals Round 2 | 3-6, 3-6

Elias dominated his match against Logansport with a flawless 6–0, 6–0 victory. In the individual regional final, he battled hard but ultimately fell 6–3, 6–3 to a strong opponent from Chesterton. With that match, Elias wraps up an incredible season — and an outstanding high school career.
