Athletics Recap - September 28th to October 4th

It was another full week of competition for the Gryphons, with our teams showing focus, grit, and school pride across every game and match. Here’s a look at the results from this week in ISI Athletics.

Student Athlete of the Week | Elias Grimm | Boys Varsity Tennis
Elias anchored the Gryphons at No. 1 singles all season—the toughest position on the roster, squaring off against the top player from every opposing school. His only loss came against a top-ten-ranked team in a grueling three-set battle, where he fought through intense cramping in the later sets. A gifted athlete, Elias spent his offseason building on last year’s progress, and his hard work was evident throughout the year. At practice, he pushes his teammates to elevate their game, earning their respect through his dedication. Both on and off the court, Elias leads by example, embodying the commitment and drive that define the team.

9/30 | Boys Varsity Tennis Sectionals  | 1-4
The Gryphons wrapped up their team season on Tuesday at Sectionals against Park Tudor. Elias Grimm secured a win at #1 singles and will advance to the individual sectional next week. It was a strong finish to a tremendous season for the boys.

9/30 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Greenwood Christian Academy | 0-3
We faced one of the strongest teams we’ve played all season, Greenwood. Although the final score was 3-0 in their favor, our team showed remarkable determination and improvement. We played with great energy, stayed organized, and executed our game plan better than ever. This match was a valuable opportunity to challenge ourselves, test new strategies, and strengthen our communication on the field. The progress we showed is encouraging as we continue to prepare for upcoming games.

10/1 | Middle School Cross Country vs Park Tudor
LouLou Vetrini finished 11th in the girls' race, running 17:46 on a hilly course. Teddy White was our first boy to finish in 4th place, running 13:06. Followed by Cameron White, 17th, 14:44; Mana Fausel, 19th, 14:46; Sebastian Villate, 27th, 17:49; and Vedaant Gupta, 30th, 18:47. Our runners pushed themselves and finished on, in their own words, the most challenging course yet.

10/2 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Anderson Preparatory Academy | 5-0
We played a great game last night and came away with a 5-0 win. The team demonstrated clear improvement in communication, adhering to the game plan, and functioning as a cohesive unit on the field. Everyone worked hard, and it really showed in our performance.

10/3 | Grade 7 and 8 Soccer vs IISL Tournament - Park Tudor | 1-0
Particularly tough game we played for our first round match in the IISL tournament, but the team remained composed while playing through hard calls and fouls. Beckett Garry was the lone scorer of the entire match, and Zach Aikins reeled in 13 stops, a tremendous performance. Overall, great hustle from the team, and very proud of today’s win.

10/4 | Grade 7 and 8 Soccer vs PAAC Tournament - Anderson Preparatory Academy | 9-0
A great start to our PAAC tournament play. Beckett Garry had a hat-trick of 3 goals, Teddy White and Ronnie Pittman both had braces of 2 goals each, and Caden Calarco and Liam Wust-Head each added 1 more to close the game 9-0. Job well done to get set for the championship game!

10/4 | Grade 7 and 8 Soccer vs PAAC Tournament Championship - Park Tudor | 1-0
The team played a very tough game against an opponent familiar with our schemes. With composure and poise, and excellent saves by keeper Zach Aikins, the Gryphons created chance after chance, finally scoring with Teddy Chesterfield poaching their keeper’s attempted save from a shot attempt from Beckett Garry. Not only proud to have gone 3-0 against the same opponent in the season, but also bringing home a conference tournament championship trophy home. Extremely proud of the team!
