Athletics Recap - September 21st to 27th

It was another full week of competition for the Gryphons, with our teams showing focus, grit, and school pride across every game and match. Here’s a look at the results from this week in ISI Athletics.

Student Athlete of the Week | Stephanie Chen | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball
Stephanie volunteered to play a brand new position at the beginning of the season, agreeing to set to help her team have the best chances in matches. Through the ups and downs of the season, Stephanie has learned and grown in her position, growing more comfortable each match. Her consistency with her serving has improved greatly, and she is making smart plays as the setter. Congratulations to Stephanie for pushing through the unknown to learn new skills and help her team achieve success!

9/22 | Middle School Cross Country vs Bethesda Christian Schools
Elementary race included Cameron White 6th place 13:28 and Maxwell Schaefer 13th place 14:19. Our boys middle school race included Teddy White with a time of 11:34 finishing 5th. Mana Fausel was 17th place with a time of 13:31, Vedaant Gupta was 34th place with a time of 15:54, and Sebastian Vitalle was 38th place with a time of 16:24. LouLou Vetrini finished 20th place in the girls race running 15:54.

9/22 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Bethesda Christian Schools | 27-25, 25-21, 25-15
9/22 | Girls JV Volleyball vs Bethesda Christian Schools | 17-25, 8-25

After the Shortridge Invitation over the weekend, the team had a big talk about mental fortitude, focusing on patience, persistence, and forgiveness. Bethesda started every set with the lead and we were forced to dig our way out of the hole we put ourselves in... and we DID!! From great resilience and discipline, we came back each time, grabbed the lead and stuck with it, prevailing in 3 straight sets.

9/23 | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball vs Greenwood Christian Academy | 15-25, 17-25
The team had a tough game, attempting to battle back but ultimately falling short to a talented Greenwood Christian team.

9/23 | Grade 5 and 6 Soccer vs Greenwood Christian Academy | 7-1
The Grade 5/6 soccer team earned a big 7–1 win over Greenwood Christian! Leivy, Zameer, and Teddy made a dynamic trio up front Otto performed well as goalie, and the whole team showed excellent teamwork throughout the game.

9/23 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Purdue Polytechnic North | 6-0
We played against Purdue Polytechnic North and had a great performance. The team showed clear improvement in all areas of the game. Our passing, communication, and decision-making were strong, and everyone contributed on the field. The hard work paid off with a solid 6-0 victory. Great job, team!

9/23 | Boys Varsity Tennis vs Mooresville High School | 4-1
The Gryphons capped off their regular season with a strong 4-1 victory over Mooresville, finishing with an impressive 11-1 record. Standout wins came from Elias Grimm at No. 1 singles, Michael Kreutz at No. 2 singles, and Leo Paul Perrin at No. 3 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Jules Dassonville and Potter Chen fought hard to push the match to a third set, ultimately clinching the final point after their opponents forfeited.

9/24 | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball vs Anderson Preparatory Academy | 25-18, 25-19
The team stayed positive and put their skill to development to work! Both Stephanie and Mira had excellent serving runs, and the ladies supported each other well to victory! This is the day the team also coined their trademark phrase "nugget power," meaning chicken nuggets pre-game helped fuel them to victory!

9/24 | Girls JV Volleyball vs Purdue Polytechnic High School | 25-19, 25-14
JV served their way to victory with a total 24 aces in the match. Tremendous display of consistent serving and defensive effort.

9/24 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Purdue Polytechnic High School | 25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 25-21
Facing the third 3A school of the year, Varsity knew to expect some talented competition. Through emotional composure, patience, and persistence, ISI managed to defeat Purdue Polytechnic High School 3 sets to 1. The front row attackers are really honing in on how to read their opponents and aim for the vulnerable spots with their various attacking techniques.

9/25 | Grade 5 and 6 Soccer vs Park Tudor | 2-4
The Gryphons wrapped up their season with a hard-fought match against Park Tudor. Despite having a small roster, the team showed resilience and determination all year long. Along the way, they celebrated several exciting victories and made tremendous strides in their skills and teamwork. It was a season full of growth, effort, and pride in being a Gryphon!

9/25 | Grade 7 and 8 Soccer vs Park Tudor | 4-1
Another well-earned victory for the Gryphons: Ronnie Pittman opened up the game with a very early goal in the first 5 minutes, and Beckett Garry scored a beautiful free kick to end the half 2-1. Austin Howerton added a solo effort, and David Rowell finished it out with a 25-yard shot. There were moments of pure, classical soccer being played, and I am extremely proud of the team finishing the regular season strong with a win at home.

9/25 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball B Team vs Coram Deo | 25-20, 19-25, 11-15
The team started out very strong in the first set, getting their serves and returns over the net. In the 2nd set, they fell behind and came back strong, but unfortunately, they just ran out of time. In the 3rd and final set, they struggled with their returns. They made a tremendous comeback, but once again they ran out of time. The team played a great game.

9/25 | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball vs Bethesda Christian | 25-20, 25-6
Our Lady Gryphons were on a roll! They gelled as a team, rooting each other on and putting into action the skills we've been practicing all season. Kate Bradbury had a nine-point serving run. They did fantastic!

9/26 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Mooresville Christian | 3-2
We played a tough game week, especially with only two subs, but our team showed great effort and determination. Despite the challenge, the players worked hard and came away with a well-earned win.

9/27 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs University High School | 16-25, 25-22, 8-15
University is one of the tougher teams in the PAAC conference, and although we managed to take a set off of them both times we played this year, we have a lot of volleyball to learn before being able to beat them. What we lacked in technique, though, we brought extra in emotional fortitude, communication, and support for our teammates and overall positive energy.

9/27 | Middle School Cross Country @ Pioneer Conference Meet
Mana Fausel was our only runner to compete, finishing 17th with a time of 14:48. Mana demonstrated great determination on a tough, hilly course, pushing all the way through to the finish line.
