Athletics Recap - August 31st to September 6th

It was another full week of competition for the Gryphons, with our teams showing focus, grit, and school pride across every game and match. Here’s a look at the results from this week in ISI Athletics.

Student Athlete of the Week | Solange Davis | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball
Solange is a model student athlete, both on and off the court! At volleyball practice and games, she hustles, supports her teammates, and, most importantly, stays positive. She is kind and respectful to her teammates and those playing on the opposition. She has greatly improved her serving skills and is never afraid to dive for the ball. Off the court, Solange is a leader among her peers. She invests completely in her academics and has already accomplished a lot since the school year began. She is a very active member of Timmy Jr. She is an outstanding athlete and young lady!

9/2 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball vs Sycamore School | 18-25, 10-25
The Gryphon ladies played hard but came up short in their loss to Sycamore. The players continue to improve their game, and the serves continue to get better in every game.

9/2 | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball vs Sycamore School | 18-25, 19-25
The team rallied together against Sycamore School and made huge improvements with serve receive, serving and communication. Kate Bradbury played excellent defense, and Bryn Worland and Amirah Weaver served well. Bryn and Anastacia Davis were aggressive at the net; Sophia Tori and Solange Davis excelled at passing. The team fought hard with some great rallies!

9/2 | Middle School Tennis vs Heritage Christian | 0-5
We had a tough match against a very good opponent in Heritage Christian. The team struggled but truly never gave up and fought until the end. They should be proud of themselves.

9/2 | Boys Varsity Tennis vs Indianapolis Shortridge | 5-0
The Gryphons turned in a dominant performance, sweeping every position Shortridge was able to field. While Shortridge was unable to put up doubles teams, our singles lineup delivered a flawless showing. Michael Kreutz at No. 1, Leo Paul Perrin at No. 2, and Craig Johnson at No. 3 each cruised to decisive 6-0, 6-0 victories.

9/2 | Grade 5 and 6 Soccer vs Mooresville Christian | 4-1
The ISI soccer team battled back from a 1–0 halftime deficit to defeat Mooresville Christian Academy 4–1! Zameer shined with a standout all-around performance, earning the captain’s rank. Goalkeepers Ben and Saffron each had huge moments, Ben with key first-half saves and Saffron stepping up in the second half, freeing Ben to score as a striker. A great team effort that showed grit and versatility!

9/2 | Grade 7 and 8 Soccer vs Mooresville Christian | 1-7
Our team's first match was away at Mooresville Christian Academy. Beckett Garry scored the first goal, and the team started strong with good communication and possession. However, we let mistakes get to our heads and came out with a 7-1 loss. This is not bad news by any means; from here, we can only improve and get that much better for the next match.

9/3 | Middle School Tennis vs Kingsway Christian | 3-2
The Middle School Tennis team got our first win of the season against Kingsway Christian. It was very evenly matched with a lot of long, grueling points and games. However, our number 2 Boys singles player, Colson Ho, narrowly defeated their 2 singles to give the team the match win. There was a lot of grit and determination on display from everyone, with the JV picking up a lot of wins as well.

9/4 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball vs Hasten Hebrew Academy | 6-25, 22-25
The players had a slow start in the first match but put in great effort. They fell behind early in the match but went on a serving streak to get close to a win. The team displayed amazing teamwork and improved communication.

9/4 | Grade 5 and 6 Soccer vs Orchard School | 2-3
Our Grade 5 and 6 soccer team put on a great performance yesterday in a close 3–2 match against Orchard. The players gave it their all from start to finish, showing determination, teamwork, and heart. Coach Medina is proud of the effort and progress the team continues to make each game, and we’re excited to carry this energy into the next match!

9/4 | Grade 7 and 8 Soccer vs Orchard School | 2-2
With a team battling injuries, the first half was a bit of a struggle. Teddy White scored a goal to close the half, and then, after being down 2-1, Alex Lee equalized it with a goal; David Rowell was the man of the match for his elite control, chances created, and hustle. There was a much better effort in the second half, and I’m proud of the team for keeping their nerves when hit with adversity.

9/4 | Boys Varsity Tennis vs Indianapolis Lutheran | 4-1
The Gryphons extended their winning streak with a commanding 4–1 victory over Lutheran. Singles play was dominant, with Elias Grimm, Michael Kreutz, and Leo Paul Perrin sweeping their matches while conceding only two games across all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Jules Dassonville and Craig Johnson fought hard in a nail-biter against a highly athletic Lutheran duo, ultimately falling in a third-set tiebreak, 6–4, 5–7 (4–7). Coco Waters also delivered an excellent doubles performance, earning another win. The match of the night belonged to our No. 2 doubles team, as Carson McCaslin and Potter Chen mounted a gritty comeback to clinch victory in three sets (0–6, 6–4, 6–1).

9/4 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Tindley Academy | 25-10, 25-11, 25-8
9/4 | Girls JV Volleyball vs Tindley Academy | 25-16, 25-20

Both JV and Varsity dominated from start to finish, setting the tone with consistent, aggressive serving. Strong communication and a versatile attack kept the momentum on ISI’s side, leading to decisive wins for both teams.

9/4 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Herron High School | 3-2
It was a very tough match. They played aggressively and smartly, challenging us from start to finish. Our team stayed focused, worked together, and fought hard on both sides of the field. In the end, we came out with the win, showing great teamwork and determination.

9/5 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball B Team vs P.A.L. | 19-25, 23-25
The players played their best game yet. They continue to improve with each game.

9/6 | Varsity Cross Country @ Brownsburg Invitational
Our team had a strong showing this past weekend at the Brownsburg Invitational! Every ISI runner finished under 24 minutes, an incredible achievement, especially for Kalyl and Barrett in their first-ever cross country race. Highlight of the day: Josh crushed his all-time PR, breaking solidly into the 19-minute range! We’re proud of the hard work and progress from all of our runners.
