Athletics Recap - August 24th to 30th

It was another full week of competition for the Gryphons, with our teams showing focus, grit, and school pride across every game and match. Here’s a look at the results from this week in ISI Athletics.

Student Athlete of the Week | Neve Apungan | Dance Team
Neve is always willing to help her peers when she sees them struggling with choreography and will address it without the coaches asking help, always being a leader no matter what.

8/25 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball vs Traders Point | 15-25, 25-20, 15-7
The Gryphon ladies played well and got their first win of the season. While the players had a slow start in the first set, they were on fire in the second and third sets. Congratulations, Lady Gryphons!

8/25 | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball vs Traders Point | 25-23, 23-25, 15-11
Gryphons showed a lot of mental toughness today in a close match that went to three sets. Stephanie Chen showed a lot of hustle playing in a brand-new position. Stephanie, Sophia Tori and Kate Bradbury had solid serving runs. Anastacia was aggressive at the net and the team really came together in the third close set.

8/26 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball vs Park Tudor | 12-25, 9-25
The team worked hard against a strong Park Tudor team. They left the match with new goals to work on, as the team continues to practice and grow more confident communicating on the court and working together as a unit.

8/26 | Grade 7 and 8 Volleyball vs Park Tudor | 9-25, 11-25
The team hustled against a very good serving team at Park Tudor. Kate Bradbury did very well with serve receiving, and Stephanie Chen went on a few serving runs. Go Gryphons!

8/26 | Middle School Cross Country at Traders Point Meet
The Middle School Cross Country Team kicked off their season against Traders Point! Highlights include Teddy White's and Loulou Vetrini's second-place finishes. The Gryphons look to continue improving their times as they prepare for their next meet on September 10th!

8/26 | Boys Varsity Tennis vs Pike High School | 3-2
The Gryphons secured an impressive victory over Pike High School, led by standout performances across the singles lineup. Elias Grimm dominated at No. 1 singles, Michael Kreutz powered through at No. 2, and Leo Paul Perrin sealed the sweep at No. 3.

8/27 | JV Girls Volleyball vs Sheridan High School | 16-25, 6-25, 24-26
8/27 | Varsity Girls Volleyball vs Sheridan High School | 20-25, 8-25

For the first time this season, the varsity team hit the court with a full lineup and showed resilience against a tough Sheridan team. Even with four players battling illness, the Gryphons fought hard and nearly forced a fourth set, falling 16-25, 6-25, 24-26. The JV put up their best set yet in the opener (20-25) and continued to show growth each match despite dropping the second, 8-25.

8/28 | Middle School Tennis vs Orchard School | 0-5
The players gave it their all against a tough Orchard team. There were close matches and hard fought points, but the team just fell short. Lucas at 1 Singles had a very tough match and barely lost 6-8.

8/28 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Sheridan High School | 8-1
We had a strong performance and came away with an 8–1 win. The team showed a lot of progress, especially in the second half, when we connected passes more effectively and played with greater aggression. We also saw clear improvement in how players positioned themselves on the field, which helped us control the game better.

8/28 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs University High School | 25-21, 10-25, 15-25, 18-25
8/28 | Girls JV Volleyball vs University High School | 6-25, 8-25

The Gryphons fought hard but came up short in their latest matchup. After showing strong play in one set, the team struggled to maintain momentum through the rest of the match. As the season continues, the focus will be on finding the right energy and confidence to sustain a whole match, not just one set.

8/29 | Grade 5 and 6 Volleyball B Team vs The Oaks Academy | 19-25, 25-13, 15-12
Our Grade 5 volleyball players played a great game on Friday, walking away with a comeback victory! With additional practices under their belt, they are beginning to play as a cohesive unit.
