Athletics Recap - August 10th to 16th

It was another full week of competition for the Gryphons, with our teams showing focus, grit, and school pride across every game and match. Here’s a look at the results from this week in ISI Athletics.

Student Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Ana Cuevas-Faget for being our Student Athlete of the Week! Ana is on the Girls Varsity Volleyball team and was nominated by her coach for stepping up for the team and playing out of position while the team was down a few players last week.

8/14 | Boys Varsity Soccer vs Lighthouse Christian Academy
Despite limited preparation time as a full team, the players came together quickly and performed exceptionally well. We experimented with different formations and positions as part of our preparation for the season, and everyone adapted with confidence and determination. The team’s energy was outstanding, they exceeded expectations, and their efforts paid off with a 4–2 victory!

8/14 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Herron High School | 8-25, 12-25, 13-25
The team showed a huge boost in mental fortitude compared to Monday’s scrimmage - staying resilient, hustling nonstop, and never losing confidence against a tough 3A opponent. Ana and Makayla stepped up in new positions, and Michelle made her debut in her first-ever volleyball competition.

8/16 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Union Jr-Sr High School | 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 7-15
The Gryphons opened the weekend meet with a marathon effort, playing five straight sets against Union. After hours of continuous volleyball, the team showed the same mental toughness they carried from Thursday’s match. Despite their resilience, Union clawed back late to take the win.

8/16 | Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Seton Cathloic High School | 8-25, 17-25, 15-25
With only a short 15-minute break, the Gryphons went right back to the court against Seton Catholic. Aggressive serving and strong attacking from Seton Catholic swung the momentum early, but ISI continued to battle through the fatigue of back-to-back matches. Even after more than three hours of play, the team fought hard until the very end.
