Technology at ISI

The heart of educational technology at ISI is the Apple 1:1 Laptop initiative. The 1:1 initiative (one laptop for every student) is essential for training the leaders of tomorrow in a world of infinite and immediately available information.  Computers create an environment where students are increasingly responsible for their learning.  Students try out a variety of learning styles to discover themselves as well as access and validate resources that answer questions and stimulate creativity.

We make sure that digital media is used to enhance good learning, not to replace it with something inferior. Beginning in the Middle Year Programme, our students have increased responsibility to keep up with their own projects and homework through our online portal, ManageBac. Having their own laptops allows our students to own and sustain this commitment.

WhyISI-buttonLower School students also have access to technology and both our upper and lower schools have computer facilities. Our teachers are well versed in using tablets and other electronic learning devices to enhance the PYP curriculum.

Why Apple?

Apple has an outstanding reputation in educational computing. They’ve invested heavily in new methods of student learning that combine educational research with multimedia. These approaches happen to work well with ISI’s International Baccalaureate programs.

Apple computers are durable and largely trouble-free, and Apple laptops seem to have been designed with younger users in mind. They have rounded corners so as not to snag going in and out of school bags, and their reinforced casings protect them from casual handling.

Apple has a great educational support network. And their well-designed operating system means that these computers will be effective learning tools for many years to come.

MacBook Pricing and Discounts

We have worked hard to establish the best price for ISI students. Apple as a distributor is very resistant to the heavy discounting that you sometimes see with other manufacturers unless they are getting rid of a discontinued model. Nevertheless, ISI will get the best price available through the Apple educational discount, and we are continuing to negotiate further reductions for ISI families.

Parents can look elsewhere, and may get a laptop at a cheaper price. They can buy direct from an Apple Store and possibly forego any ISI discount, or they can buy a more expensive laptop with higher specifications. Please remember: if you buy outside of the official Apple distribution network, the laptop must meet our minimum specifications.
