International Baccalaureate: Learning for School and for Life

As the only school in Indiana with a full-continuum, preschool-to-diploma International Baccalaureate (IB) program, we do the most to prepare our students for the IB diploma and beyond. Their skills serve them not only at the college of their choice but also in the even more challenging world outside.

WhyISI-buttonEstablished as a non-profit international educational foundation in 1968, the IB is in almost 4,000 schools, in 147 countries. It offers four curriculums to over one million students between the ages of 3 and 19, and is widely recognized as valuable preparation for college and beyond.

An IB Diploma is Respected Everywhere.

Of U.S. News & World Report’s top 100 national universities, all recognize the IB diploma, as do the top colleges and universities in Indiana. Many U.S. high schools, including private and public schools, now offer IB diplomas to their best students.

But of all the schools in Indiana, only ISI makes the IB diploma available to each and every graduate. All of our faculty, from pre-elementary to high school, are trained IB practitioners for their appropriate level. Along with bilingual immersion and our international perspective, the IB is behind everything we do as a school.

What is an IB learner?

The IB learner profile provides a vision for this kind of education. It’s a set of ideals meant to inspire schools, teachers, and students to create a better, more peaceful world.

The IB learner is:

  • Open-minded. Willing to try new things.
  • Reflective. Engaged and informed.
  • Balanced. Honest and fair.

Rooted in A Spirit of Life-Long Learning

The IB Diploma Programme at ISI takes place in Grades 11 and 12. Students make connections across subject areas, explore the theory of knowledge, and study an array of courses across six subject groups.

In May of each year, all Grade 12 students at ISI take their IB external written exams, just like more than 120,000 other Diploma Programme students around the world. Their exams aren’t the only factor going into their diploma – there’s also the extended essay, the theory of knowledge course, and their creativity-action-service project – but the exam is important.

That’s okay, because through the IB Primary Years Programme and the IB Middle Years Programme ISI has been with them every step of the way.
