Five Grade 11 Students: Grace Ybarra, Max Bruder, Quinn Ricketts, Sam Wittman and Sawyer Powell attended the CWMUN Conference in New York City from Thursday March 16th to Sunday March 19th in the United Nations. Students served on committees with other participants from students around the country and around the world. It was ISI’s first time with this conference. The conference included 2,000 students and challenged our students to continue to utilize their Model United Nations skills of researching about an assigned country on a specific topic, collaborating with other students during unmoderated debates but also making their voices heard during moderated debates and writing working papers and resolutions. Committees were large and competition to be heard was fierce but our students persevered.
Following the conference, students were able to tour New York City from Monday to Wednesday morning and visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Times Square, the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, 9/11 Memorial and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. The students were also able to watch the Broadway musical Kinky Boots and have an individual question and answer session with the star of the show, J Harrison Ghee.
It was a momentous trip for all.
