All ISI students are required to observe a dress code, which includes a school uniform for students up to Grade 7.
Our dress and uniform code ensures that our students represent themselves and the school well, identify with each other as a mutually-supportive community, and demonstrate respect towards themselves and others through appropriate choice of clothing.
Our official uniform providers are LandsEnd.com and Sears. Items of
clothing that fit the Uniform Dress Code guidelines are also
available at a variety of local retailers. We ask that they
are consistent with items in the Lands’ End uniform catalog, or the
uniform section at Sears.
Students and parents are requested to adhere to the spirit of the uniform and dress code.
Participating Vendors
- Uniform Dress Code items for ISI are available through our
official supplier, Landsend.com/Sears, including the official “Clear Blue”
plaid items.
- Items of clothing that fit the Uniform Dress Code guidelines are
also available at a variety of local retailers. and must be consistent
with items seen in the Lands End uniform catalog or uniform section at
Sears.
- Celestial Designs in Zionsville will continue to add the logo onto
items purchased from other local stores.

Logo Items / Logo Embroidery
MODIFIED DRESS CODE DAYS
- Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year Modified Dress Code Days will be held once a month on spirit days.
- Students are allowed to wear clothing that does not conform to the Uniform Dress Code, but the restrictions on specific items noted in the Uniform Dress Code still apply (for example, no jeans, sweatpants, athletic pants, cargo pants or shorts, spaghetti straps, shirts with slogans).
- T-shirts must not have advertising, inappropriate language or images or messages that are violent in nature.
- All Gryphon Gear and Previous ISI Arts Week T-shirts are acceptable on Wednesdays.
GYM WEAR
- Students in 3YOP, Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, and 3 do not
change clothes for physical education classes (gym).
- Students in grades 1-3 should bring gym shoes to wear.
- Grades 4–5 change clothes for gym. Students should have shorts, a
t-shirt, and athletic shoes available for gym days.
Grades 6 and 7
Upper School Students are required to dress according to the following ISI dress code:
- Grade 6 & 7 students dress according to the uniform regulations
- Present in a neat, tidy and clean state;
- Wear clothes that are in good condition, not ripped or damaged;
- Ensure no undergarment is visible;
- Ensure no offensive or questionable writing appears on wearing apparel
- Covered shoes must be worn at all times in the Science laboratories
- Students must wear appropriate gym shoes for P.E.
- Sandals may be worn providing they have straps on the ankles. (No flip flops are allowed)
The following are not acceptable:
- Short shorts or skirts
- Sagging clothes
- Bare midriffs
- Strapless tops
- Disruptive makeup
- Spaghetti straps
- Visible body and tongue piercing
- Flip flops or high heels
Acceptable clothing for gym class grades 6 through 10
- ISI Logo shorts or plain shorts (grey or blue)
- ISI Logo Shirt or plain white T-shirt
- Gryphon Gear sportswear in orange, navy and grey only
- Athletic shoes
- White Socks
Official Colors and Logos
The school underwent a marketing and branding study in 2009 which led to a closer definition of the school’s identity in terms of official colors and logos. A number of parents commented that the new colors did not work well with the existing uniform. A group of parents from the Parent Association working with the school’s administration have adopted the following guidelines:
- The school plaid will change from the current plaid to the Lands’ End “Clear Blue” plaid.
- Red shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, etc. were phased out at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
- White, Navy, Light blue and orange (Lands' End "Orange Spice") shirts are an option.
- All new items are to have an orange or navy ISI logo (orange logo on navy shirts; navy logo on orange shirts; navy or orange logo choice on white or light blue shirts)
- The gold logo was also phased out at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
- There will be an optional navy blue blazer for formal occasions for both boys and girls.
- The blazer may be purchased at approved ISI clothing providers but must look like the one pictured in the Lands’ End or at Sears in the uniform section.
Pants, Shorts
- Pants or shorts should be proportioned to fit at the waist.
- Shorts must be no shorter than mid-thigh and must extend to the end of the fingertips of the student when the student’s arms are straight down by his/her side.
- Cargo pants, jeans, jean shorts, short shorts, gym shorts, athletic pants (any form) or sweat pants are not allowed.
Skirts, Skorts, Jumpers
- Style is not restricted, but only one plaid is approved (LANDS END-“Clear Blue plaid”) from Lands’ End or Sears.
- Skirts or skorts must be no shorter than mid-thigh and must extend to the end of the fingertips of the student when the student’s arms are straight down by her side.
- Navy and Khaki (medium khaki) jumpers must have the orange ISI logo on the left side of the chest.
- Plaid jumpers must not bear the school logo.
Shirts
- Short-sleeved polo shirts, long-sleeved polo shirts, long-sleeved turtleneck shirts, and button-down collared shirts are acceptable either alone or under sweaters or sweatshirts. (A polo shirt is a shirt with a collar)
- All shirts must have the ISI logo on the left side of the chest.
- Absolutely no slogans or brand marks other than the ISI logo shall be worn.
- Shirts need not be tucked in if the hem is neat and clean and the shirt is no longer than the seat of the pants, but otherwise shirts should be worn tucked in.
- Tank tops, spaghetti straps, and shirts exposing the midriff are not permitted at any grade level.
Sweaters, Sweatshirts

If a student chooses to wear a sweater or sweatshirt, it must bear the ISI logo on the left side of the chest.
- Underneath a sweater or sweatshirt, the student must wear a collared shirt or turtleneck shirt with the ISI logo on the left side of the chest
- Gryphon Gear sweatshirts are acceptable on modified dress code days. Gryphon Gear is also acceptable during gym classes in orange, navy and grey ONLY.
Shoes

Footwear should be sturdy and appropriate for the playground and gym class.
- Sandals may be worn as long as they have a strap across the back.
- No flip-flops or house shoes (slippers) may be worn at school.
- Shoes should be appropriate to the dress code.
Outerwear
- Recess and active play are an important part of the student’s day.
- Students should be dressed according to the weather.
- Hats, gloves, and boots should be worn in cold weather for outside play.
- Styles and colors of jackets and coats are not restricted.
