Lower School
The Journey Begins
The journey begins for our youngest students by their parents choosing which language track to put them in.
ISI offers immersion programs in either French, Spanish, or Mandarin.
Students in pre-school and lower-elementary school receive their education almost exclusively in either Spanish, French, or Mandarin in an immersion model delivered by Spanish, French and Mandarin native speakers who are trained teachers.
In the pre-school (Grades 3-year-old, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) French and Spanish programs, there is no formal English teaching, although the students have many opportunities in the school setting to speak English.
In Grades 1, 2, and 3 all classes receive an hour a day of formal English instruction
In Grades 4 and 5, the French and Spanish immersion classes change so that classes in English make up around 50% of the student class time each week.
Our Lower School (elementary) students are supported by a part-time nurse, learning-support specialists, second language support teachers, and specialist Physical Education, Art and Music teachers.
Students have access to computer labs at both campuses, and to libraries with age appropriate collections in all of the school’s languages.
This private elementary school in Indianapolis is led by a principal with the support of an assistant principal at each campus.
