ACCOUNTING MANAGER

 

Overview of Position

The Accounting Manager is part of the Business Office which is comprised of the VP for Finance and Operations, Accounting Manager and Business Office Coordinator.  The Business Office is mainly responsible for Finance, Accounting and Human Resources. In addition to working with all departments and employees in the organization, it also has extensive contact with customers (i.e. parents). The Accounting Manager’s primary responsibility is financial reporting and analysis, as well as budgeting and forecasting.  However, the Accounting Manager also  will assist with all Business Office matters.  This individual will maintain the accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager will address a multitude of accounting activities including accounts receivable management, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, year end audit preparation, and budget and forecast activities. The Accounting Manager will have contact with numerous constituents, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Responsibilities

The Accounting Manager is expected to be a team player and assist with all Business Office responsibilities.  The following is a sample of some of their specific areas of responsibilities:

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close, including general ledger account reconciliation and analysis
  • Assist in the development and maintain a monthly management reporting package, including financial and non-financial performance measures.
  • Develop annual budget working with department heads and update forecast throughout the year.
  • Monitor and actively manage account receivable.  Including, developing working relationships with customers.
  • Assist with monthly cash management and forecasting (including AR and AP review).
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and processes to enhance the workflow and output of the department.
  • Support VP for Finance and Operations with special projects.  This includes projects to support other areas of the organization, including, Human Resources, Food Service, Buildings and Grounds, Enrollment, and Development.

 

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, CPA experience preferred.
  • Five or more years experience closing the books and preparing financial statements.
  • Ability to manage challenging interpersonal and customer service situations with care.
  • Experience with QuickBooks preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
